How Much is Two Plus Two?

…so I was reading my Ethics Textbook for some clue onto how I should write my Ethics Essay, and I came across this interesting short story on the second chapter:

“A large company was hiring a new CEO. The four leading candidates worked inside the company so the board decided to ask each candidate a very basic question.

The comptroller was brought in.

“How much is 2 plus 2?”

“This must be a trick question, but the answer is 4. It will always be 4.”

They brought in the head of research and development, an engineer by training.

“How much is 2 plus 2?”

“That depends on whether it is a positive 2 or a negative 2. It could be 4, zero or minus 4.”

The brought in the Head of Marketing.

“The way I figure, it, 2 plus 2 is 22.”

Finally, they brought in the legal counsel.

“How much is 2 plus 2?” they asked.

He looked furtively at each board member.

“How much do you want it to be?”

Anyway, I hate the module on Ethics – not because I’m unethical, but every way I think that I can write the article. I feel it’s not right.

I want to redesign this blog, but I’m just lazy. Too many things on my hands. Haven’t even got time to write a good article or two up here.

Whimsical Thoughts

I wanted to change the title of this blog to “My Whimsical Thoughts” or something along those lines, but I refrained from doing so. I thought that since the current one had been there for so long, I might as well leave it – so I changed the line below the title instead, a relatively less visible change.

Lessons start tomorrow again, back to the good old schedule of waking up at 7:15am. Somehow or another, the three week break was better than I thought it would have been, though I’m sure it’d have been better if certain things never happened.

Been listening to this and liking it, though I’ve had it in my library for some time already, I didn’t really pay much attention to it.

KTV Outing

Again :o . I have so many post titles with KTV Outing, so much so that Wordpress is prefixing numbers behind the Permalinks.

It was on Wednesday, went with W and R this time, picked the afternoon session from 2-7pm for once. I wanted to use C’s card, and help her make one there too since she lost hers, but they decided that I had to refill in all the particulars on the membership form, and etc, instead of taking the information from their database. How ridiculous – ended up making the card for myself instead.

Having went there with a slight flu and cough, I ended up killing my throat.

After that we went for dinner at some nearby Hawker Center, then went back half asleep.

Took the train back to Yio Chu Kang, then received a phone call there, and that freaked the heck out of me. It does make me wonder how can one (or in this case, two) be so stupid as to not think before they act. I essentially sat outside the train station for almost 30 minutes talking on the phone.

Today.

I took the Circle Line to to Yio Chu Kang today! Whilst the journey time was the same as taking a bus, the walking distance I had to make was shorter. The trip from my place to Yio Chu Kang cost a dollar – would have only cost $0.69 by bus, but since I bought an unlimited pass, it’d be $0.00.

Earlier, I saw P at the bus stop waiting for 74, helped him check when’s the next bus arriving, and it’s only coming in 10 minutes, and he’s waited for 10 minutes already. We decided to try out the Circle Line together.

After lessons, I took the Circle Line again for the fun of it to Bartley, then switched to a bus to meet C for lunch at Paya Lebar. J came along to join us. I figured out that taking a bus there directly would have been faster than taking the train, then switching to a bus, even though they were both headed in the same direction *rolls eyes*.

There’s a premium service running from Marymount Station to Sin MingPremium 721.

I think it’ll fail. It has the most uninteresting route ever that duplicates current bus services, and it costs $1.10 to board it. Surprisingly, it managed to pick up a measly one passenger today, according to the News. I would suppose after the publicity of the Premium Service the News gave today, the ridership would be up tomorrow.

Why fail? Someone that stays in Sin Ming will have better hope taking 410 or 52 to Bishan MRT Station, which costs only $0.69, and then switch to the Circle Line from there, or even just take the North South Line from there, since I’m sure most would take the train from Marymount to Bishan. There doesn’t even seem to be a point for this service to run, at least maybe until the full line opens.

It’ll probably have better hope if it served the landed housing estate opposite the train station.

I hate doing redundant stuff.

For example, I’d prefer just coding out a web design immediately, rather than having to painstakingly draw it on Photoshop, then extend the layers and try and fit in data using the text function, while throwing in dummy pictures, and all that other nonsense.

I need sleep.

I’m a PastaManiac

I ♥ Photoshop

I signed up for the VIP Card at PastaMania today!

I figured it was probably worth it,  there’s a discount for VIP Card holders, everyday of the week. It usually sums up to about $1-$2 of savings. The student discount also extends from 8.30pm till closing on Mondays-Thursdays, so that’s even more savings!

Since I guess I’ll eat PastaMania (at least) once every month – just based on the VIP Card savings, if I eat PastaMania only once a month, it’s about $1.875 of savings a month ($12.50*15%). Multiplied by 12 months, that’s (at least) $22.50 of savings!

The membership costs $15 per year for new signups ($10 to renew), so hence, it’s definitely worth the sign up. I save more than I spend on the card, yay! >.<

These are the pluses that come with the card:

  • 15% off total bill except Combos and Promotional Items
  • 25% off Pasta and Pizza on Birthday Week
  • Student Promo Extension: 30% off Pasta and Pizza, 8:30pm till closing.
  • $1 Tea/Coffee
  • Other exclusive promotions
  • $10 Pizza Voucher
  • $5 Pasta Voucher

Thriftiness at it’s Best!

On being helpful and rendering services: I went back to school today on someone’s request after my lectures/labs/tutorials.  Despite the tormenting heavy rain, I still attempted to make an effort to go back. I rang the person’s handphone for almost 20 times for an hour, yet it went unanswered, nor did I even get a return call or message.

How annoying.

On crossing roads without shelters during heavy rains: I thought the weather would have had simmered down by the time I reached school, since while waiting at the bus terminal, the rain had started to simmer.

Unfortunately, bad things happen in pairs.

The first one: it started to rentlessly pour again – the moment I alighted.

Hence, problem solving time. How do you cross the road when the weather is so helpful?

1. Take a bus to the next bus stop that has a sheltered overhead bridge.

2. Cross the bridge.

3. Take the bus back to the stop opposite.

The second one: the rain simmered down the moment I took the bus back.

I’ve got CCA Orientation (I hate orientations) tomorrow, but those people didn’t even call me nor drop me an email.

I wonder if I’m supposed to even turn up still.

For the Lack of a Better Title…

Lectures are horribly boring. I hope they get interesting soon, but they’re called Lectures for a reason.

I think I’ll probably dislike the rest of my Computing Math lectures, good luck to myself. My Math Lecturer reminds me of a magical combination of personailities of my last 2 Math teachers, how coincidental.

It’s just the subject and the contents which are going to kill me, nothing to do with the lecturer at all :\ (I mean it).

After lessons, which unfortunately ended at only 3:50pm, we went to Plaza Singapura to look for Laptop Bags. I didn’t really spot any that I like, I’m possibly just being fussy. But finding a backpack that isn’t that large, yet can store my laptop, is a pain.

After walking around, we went to Xin Wang for dinner before going home. There was a nice chat there.

I shall let my pictures do the talking for the dinner :)

Cheese Baked Rice with Chicken Chop

Cheese Baked Rice with Chicken Chop

Cheese Baked Rice with Fish Fillet!

Cheese Baked Rice with Chicken Chop

Cheese Baked Rice with Chicken and Fillet Together!

Cheese Baked Rice with Chicken and Fillet Together!

And our dessert

Mango Snow Ice!

I did my usual favourite doing with the dessert too:

…digging a hole right at the base!

Though the structure collapsed when someone accidentally slammed it :].

I ought to sleep!
